I went blueberry picking this past Saturday and it was fun, fun, fun! I'd done it once before, but I've loved having the fresh berries so much that when somebody suggested doing it again I was all for it. I picked five pounds of blueberries in two hours! And the blueberries are cheap! The four of us carpooled, so the gas cost was minimal, and the blueberries are only $2 a POUND! And they're organic! A few days earlier I was at a Super Target and their organic blueberries are $4 for 6 oz! Can you believe that?! That's less than half a pound for the price that I got two pounds! Some math and visuals for you, since I didn't take any pictures while we were picking.
The first picture has 6 oz of blueberries, the second 2 lbs.
6 oz @ $4.00/lb
1 oz = $0.67
6 oz = $4.00
1 lb = $10.67
5 lb = $53.30
1 lb @ $2.00/lb
1 oz = $0.13
6 oz = $0.78
1 lb = $2.00
5 lb = $10.00
So I saved $43.30 on the blueberries; include what I put in for gas and I still saved $33.30. Pretty sweet. Have I mentioned that they're even organic?! :)
I've frozen all the blueberries (individually on pastry pans so they aren't stuck together) and they make a great and cold snack! And they go well in oatmeal too.
Anybody have good recipes calling for blueberries? I'd love to try them out.
